Family Support services

Our Family Support Team is there for children, young adults and family members, when you need us most. We offer social work, family support, counselling, therapy and chaplaincy.

The Family Support Team are here for children and young adults referred and accessing Naomi and Jack’s, as well as family members and those with a close connection. We are here for you when you need us most.

The Family Support Team includes social work, family support, counselling, therapy and chaplaincy.

We aim to support and empower individuals and help build resilience by providing a holistic family support service. We work alongside the care team and doctors offering emotional, social and spiritual support that goes beyond the physical needs of a child or young adult.

You may speak to any member of the team, as we all work together to provide a family support service. This includes providing a listening ear, linking you in with members of the wider hospice service, and signposting to external services and support.

You can contact the Family Support Team by:

Phone: 01962 760555
Email: familysupport@naomihouse.org.uk

The team work Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 5pm. If we aren’t available to respond to you straight away, a member of the team will contact you as soon as possible.

Family Support Team - what we offer

  • The Family Support Team can offer information and guidance on a wide range of topics.

We offer support and guidance to help schools provide any additional help, as required. We also will work with families to access care and support in the community, consider social inclusion, as well as meeting therapeutic needs and more.

  • We will support young adults and their families who are making the move from Naomi House to Jack's Place, or into other community services.

  • Support for siblings and other related children includes advice for parents and schools, groups and one-to-one therapeutic support.

Siblings and other related children are invited to special activity days, just for them. These therapeutic, fun days include arts and crafts, games and trips to local attractions. During these events there are opportunities to meet with other children who may share similar experiences, helping to relieve some of the isolation that can often be felt.

  • We have a closed Families Facebook Page for the parents, carers and partners of children and young people using Naomi and Jack's services. This is a safe space where people can share experiences and offer support to each other.

Please get in touch if you are open to our services and would like to join.

Counselling and therapeutic services

Our counselling and therapeutic services are available to children and young adults referred and accessing Naomi and Jack's, as well as family members and those with a close connection. Our team of experienced and qualified counsellors and therapists can offer sessions at Naomi and Jack's, via telephone or on a virtual platform. Each counselling and therapeutic session is kept confidential, in line with professional ethical standards.

Our support is individualised and we try to make sure we can offer what is needed, at the right time, in the right setting.

Different Therapeutic Services

  • Counselling is a talking therapy and our core approach is to be person centered. Our team of counsellors offer one-to-one sessions for young people and adults referred and accessing Naomi and Jacks, parents, partners, grandparents and adult siblings. We understand that families include a range of connected people in important roles and will discuss counselling for them on an individual basis.

  • Play therapy is ideal for younger children and can be offered to give them a space to explore their feelings and express themselves in a safe place. It is a non-directive approach which can support confidence building and anxiety management, as well as exploring emotional and behavioural needs. Play Therapy can involve using art and craft materials, a sand tray, puppets and music.

Our trained therapist works with children and young people referred and accessing Naomi and Jack’s as well as siblings and other children and young people with a close connection.

  • Creative Arts Counselling mixes play and talking therapy and is ideal for older children and young people. It is also non-directive and builds on the child or young person’s growing ability to creatively express and explore any issues or worries they may have, alongside finding sense and meaning through words and talking.

Our trained therapist works with children and young people referred and accessing Naomi and Jack’s as well as siblings and other children and young people with a close connection.

  • Art Therapy can be used to support children, young people and adults. It is enough to just have an interest in art - you do not need to have previous skill or experience in art. It's useful for some people who might have difficulty in talking. This happens to many of us when circumstances are intense or recent. Art Therapy is used as a way of indirectly expressing and communicating, and can feel freeing, as you are in charge of what's created and it's not like an art lesson.

Our trained Art Therapist works with children, young people and adults referred and accessing Naomi and Jack's, as well as well as family members and those with a close connection.

  • Our Chaplain offers pastoral care and spiritual support to children, young adults and their families, whether someone has a particular faith, spiritual belief or none at all. Our Chaplain has contact with different faith communities and may be able to help you in making contact with them and finding the support you need. Visits can be arranged at Naomi and Jack's or at home.

  • Our Social Workers and Family Support Worker are here to support children, young people and adults referred and accessing Naomi and Jack's, as well as their families, with practical, emotional and advocacy support.

This can be virtually, face-to-face whilst in house, or through a home visit. We will work with you to agree a plan of support for the short or longer term, and can liaise with community professionals and services.
