End of life care
We are always there for end of life care, with services available 24 hours, 365 days a year.
Naomi House
When a child comes to the end of their life, the family may choose to come to Naomi House for care and support over the last few days or weeks.
Our Nurses and Healthcare Assistants will work alongside the family to support the child’s needs in the way that is best for each individual child and family. Our nurses and doctors will be able to support ongoing symptom and pain management across the day and night, relieving parents of this challenge.
During this time, there would be accommodation for the immediate family so parents and siblings can stay in comfort all together.
Our Family Support team will be available throughout the stay.
It almost feels like you’re up high in the trees and Naomi & Jack's is your safety net. If we were going to fall, they were going to catch us.
Sophie, Reuben's mum
Butterfly Bereavement Suite
Families may choose to stay with their child at Naomi House for a short period after they have died. The child would be cared for in our Butterfly Suite, and family would be supported in the initial practical tasks necessary at this time.
This allows families a little more time with their child after death in a more comfortable, supportive environment. Our Family Support team would be there to support families during their stay and would continue to offer support after the child has been moved to the care of the funeral director, and the family have returned home.
Jack's Place
When a young adult comes to end of life, you may choose to come to Jack’s Place for care and support over your last few days or weeks.
You would have your own room and family accommodation would be offered to your immediate family.
Care would be provided by our Nurses and Healthcare Assistants, who would work alongside you and your family to support your needs in the way that is best for you. Our specialist palliative care team would carry out regular reviews and support ongoing symptom and pain management across the day and night.
Our family support team would continue to support you and your family throughout the stay.
I can't imagine how I would've got through those final weeks if we didn't have Jacksplace, because Connor was adamant that he didn't want to go to hospital. To have the support from people who genuinely care has been amazing. We would've been lost without them.
Louisa, Connor's mum
Ocean Bereavement Suite
Families may stay with young adults at Jack’s Place for a short period after they have died. The young adult would be cared for in our Ocean Suite, and family would be supported in the initial practical tasks necessary at this time.
This allows families a little more time together after death in a more comfortable, supportive environment. Our Family Support team would continue to support the family after the young adult has been moved to the care of the funeral director, and the family have returned home.
Memory making
When a child or young adult is receiving end of life care, our Play and Activities Team focus on supporting final wishes, creating opportunities for memory making and providing activities that promote comfort, relaxation, and quality time with loved ones.
We work collaboratively and try our very best to facilitate special requests and experiences wherever possible, which may include use of the hydrotherapy pool.
We can also support siblings, providing a safe space where they can take part in a variety of comforting activities with our supportive staff, while family members are dealing with sensitive conversations etc.
Our aim is to help create meaningful moments during this time, ensuring that experiences are as special and memorable as possible for the child or young person and their family, leaving lasting memories for families to cherish.
