Counselling and Therapeutic Services

We offer counselling, play therapy, creative arts counselling and art therapy to parents, siblings, partners and other family members.

Our counselling and therapeutic service are focused on supporting people in the first three years post bereavement, however, we are always available for advice and signposting outside of this time frame.

Our counselling and therapeutic service is available to parents, siblings, partners and other family members with a close connection to the child or young person.  Our team of experienced and qualified counsellors and therapists can offer sessions at the hospice, via telephone or on a virtual platform. Each Counselling and Therapeutic session is kept confidential in line with professional ethical standards.

Our support is individualised and we try to make sure we can offer what is needed, at the right time, in the right setting.

Counselling

Counselling is a talking therapy and our core approach is to be person centered. Our team of counsellors offer one to one sessions for parents, partners, grandparents and adult siblings. We understand that families include a range of connected people in important roles and will discuss counselling for them on an individual basis.

Play Therapy

Play therapy is ideal for younger children and can be offered to give them a space to explore their feelings and express themselves in a safe place. It is a non-directive approach which can support confidence building and anxiety management as well as exploring emotional and behavioural needs. Play Therapy can involve using art and craft materials, sand tray, puppets and music.

Creative Arts Counselling

Creative Arts Counselling mixes play and talking therapy and is ideal for older children and young people. It is also non- directive and builds on the child or young person’s growing ability to creatively express and explore any issues or worries they may have alongside finding sense and meaning through words and talking.

Our trained therapist works with siblings and other children and young people with a close connection to the family.

Art therapy

Art Therapy can be used to support children, young people and adults and it is enough to have an interest as you do not need to have previous skill or experience in art. It is useful for some people who might have difficulty in talking, this happens to many of us when circumstances are intense or recent. Art Therapy is used as a way of indirectly expressing and communicating and can feel freeing as you are in charge of what is created and it is not like an art lesson.

Our trained Art Therapist works with siblings, parents, partners and other family members with a close connection.
