Jack's Place

Our specialist centre for young adults aged 16-35 with complex medical needs. It’s the only service of its kind in the south of England, offering specialist care and support as well as the chance to socialise, have fun and be independent.

“Stays at Jack’s Place offer not only essential medical support but also a much-needed break from the harsh realities of my condition. Whether it's chatting with their compassionate staff or engaging in fun activities with the Play and Activities Team, Jack’s Place provides a rare and precious sense of comfort, understanding and respite in a world that often feels overwhelmingly medicalised.”

What we offer

At Jack’s Place we offer specialist short breaks (respite) where young adults can stay on their own, and enjoy a break away from daily routine. Partners and friends can visit, and young adults can meet and socialise with others in similar situations. In addition, we provide family support, therapeutic support, play and activities, social events and trips out.

We are always there for end-of-life care, with services available 24 hours, 365 days a year.

Our facilities

Jack’s Place has six bedrooms equipped with specialist beds, hoists and state of the art en-suite bathrooms, featuring accessible baths and showers. Each room also has a smart TV and games console.

We have a hydrotherapy pool which can be used in a variety of ways, from physiotherapy and relaxation to a fun pool party with friends.

I have muscle pain all the time – in my wheelchair, in bed, everywhere. Except for when I’m in the hydrotherapy pool. It is such a relief to float in the water and enjoy half an hour with no muscle pain.

Jack's Place is a bright and happy place with wonderful staff, where you can hang out with friends and meet new people. You can play board games, enjoy arts and crafts, get engrossed in virtual reality, have a massage, relax in the garden, or meet for a drink. Jack's Place gives me and my family respite.

Day Service

We also have Day Service where young adults can come in just for the day to spend time in a safe, supportive environment where they can see their friends, socialise and engage in a range of activities.

At Jack’s Place, we like to have fun. We meet up with friends and enjoy different activities and experiences. The Play and Activities Team host a variety of activities to suit our interests, from cooking, baking and arts and crafts, to games, music and themed days. We go on trips out to places like the pub or the theatre. We have visitors come to the hospice too, including live musicians, football clubs, reptiles, and we’ve even had an Escape Room!

The Play and Activities Team offers a variety of themed Day Service sessions designed to support both developmental and social needs. Activities include cooking, arts and crafts, sensory play, games, technology-based activities and hydrotherapy swimming sessions.

Day Service also creates opportunities for young adults to experience unique and engaging visits from external providers, such as mobile farms, performance artists, reptile encounters and more.

In addition to the activities, there are valuable opportunities for social interaction. Young adults can connect with others who share similar experiences, while also engaging with members of the wider multidisciplinary team to access guidance and support where needed, including our Family Support Team and Physiotherapy Team.
